The FINE PRINT
- Who can participate in the RHS Spring Musical? All students in grades 9-12 who attend Radnor High School can participate in the cast, crew, orchestra, internships of the Spring Musical.
- What is the time commitment? The production schedule is developed based on student conflicts. Students are not called “all of the time” for rehearsals. Students are only absolutely required to attend performances and all events within ten days prior to the first performance. There is a ton of flexibility and understanding with conflicts - as long as we know ahead of time - if you have to miss. Cast - Students with larger roles will obviously be scheduled to attend more rehearsals.
- When does it start? - GENERAL MEETING and AUDITIONS are in December, during the second week after Thanksgiving. Check the date above on our website.
- I just want to be in the ensemble - do I have to audition? Students do not have to audition to be in the Musical! You're in! Attend the General Meeting and complete the Sign-Up above! We do ask you to try the dance routines for us, so our Choreographer can plan the choreography for the full cast. Any student who wishes to be considered for any small or large speaking and/or singing part is required to complete a singing audition.
- I can’t find the singing audition materials? In the interest of equity, the singing passage will be unlocked and taught during the General Meeting to everyone, all at once. The Dance Audition may or may not have video posted, it is up to the choreographer. The Sign-Up page will have the links to the Dance choreo videos to learn.
- I can’t make it to the General Meeting? Students unable to be present for the General Meeting must complete the Sign-Up, and ask a friend what they missed.
- I can’t make it to the General Meeting AND I want to audition? - Students who wish to be audition but absolutely cannot make the General Meeting may submit an Audition Video. Please review and follow the Video Audition Procedure here. The Singing Audition selection will be presented during the General Meeting. Video auditions are accepted, but it is highly recommended to make every effort to attend the General Meeting and Audition in person.
- Is there an Activity Fee? Yes. The fee amount is based on which group you are joining - Cast, Crew, Orchestra, Intern. The fee for Cast members will be higher due to costumes, makeup, hair, libretto costs.
- I am facing financial challenge right now. Is there any way I can still participate? Absolutely!! There is financial support available for students facing financial challenge. Send an email to the Principal and your Counselor for more information.
- I want to discuss my audition, and/or my assignment/role in the show. I welcome feedback. Can I talk about it? Certainly! We encourage this. Cast members and interns can speak with Sam and Mr. Dietzler; crew members can talk to Ms. O'Rourke; orchestra pit members can speak with Mrs. McDonnell. We welcome a professional and mature conversation.
- The cast list was posted, or crew assignments made, and I have noticed some students bullying or threatening myself or other students, in school or online because of the cast list or crew list - Or, I have heard about students who are upset about the cast list and crew assignment, and they are making threats about staff or students. What can I do? While we do understand disappointment might come about from a cast list or crew assignment, please know safety for all is most important. Any negative, destructive, or disruptive behavior of any kind, online or otherwise, is completely unacceptable. Report this immediately to the Director, who will immediately report it to RHS administration. Take a screenshot of digital offenses, if needed. Poor behavior is grounds for dismissal from Radnor Actors Workshop, and discipline according to the RHS Student Handbook. Rest assured - there is zero tolerance for negative behaviors - professionalism, serenity, & self control are always encouraged and our goal for our students, and we want all students to feel safe and sound.
